| Study of multiple data points during sleep helps us assess whether there is snoring
only, mild airway collapse without hypoxia, and severe obstruction with apnea.
Respiratory distress index or RDI is a measure of number of events of breath-holding
and hypopneas.
Home study is a screening technique, and yet is very helpful. For
more obvious cases,
split night studies are used. Polysomnography is
undertaken in a certified sleep lab, such as Pacific Sleep.
CPAP titration is done at the end of the evening, in order to determine that the
problem is indeed apnea, and that CPAP can correct it. This level is then used to begin
home treatments.
CPAP can be used for diagnosis, semi-permanent and life-long treatment. We would be
happy to discuss further options with you.
